You are in the last year of your study and the total focus is on your thesis. More than logical as well, because this is about the most difficult and time consuming thing you have done throughout your study period. However, it is very useful to see what you are going to do after your studies. There are often two types of people to be distinguished in this process. The one would like to study because he or she is not yet in a full-time job or would like to gather more knowledge. The other is extremely happy that all these years are studying and finally getting to work. Or if you don't want to think of both at the moment, you can escape. You can find what possible options after your study in this article.
This blog was written by Yannick Bos of Young Capital-vacancies for students, starters and young professionals.
At a traineeship you go to work but you continue to learn at the same time. So you earn money and get training to work on your personal development. You start by learning a certain specialisation and work in addition. As probably many different teachers have said to you: ' You are never too old to learn ' or ' you are never learned '. This is a remark that you should listen to verve lens, but if you think about it now, you know that that teacher is right. Do you want to specialise with a traineeship or just complement your knowledge with a direction that suits you well? Then a traineeship is an excellent addition for you! Are you not yet learnt and do you often want to gain the necessary experience? Then it is certainly useful to see a traineeship.
Working after your study
Many students are delighted that they can finally put their knowledge into practice after their studies. These students are ready to enter the labour market and are jam with energy to start a new challenge. However, many graduates are at the same problem, which is experience. If you start your first full-time job you don't have it yet, but how do you get this experience when you've just graduated? An option is to work in the industry during your internship or graduation period where you want to work after your studies. So you do all the necessary experience and knowledge to perform a start-up function. Take a marketing job, for example. If you have just graduated and already have experience in this industry, then you already have a dash for it. Is this not what the employer Is looking for in terms of experience? Then take a step back. Start with a job that is just below your level, so do your experience. Do one step back to move forward two steps!
Go for a break!
Are you not yet ready to start working right and want to empty your head after all the hard studying? Go for a break, a half or a year. Get inspired in, for example, a country where you've never been. You can improve your second language abroad or learn a new language. If you find a job abroad, you will learn the language very quickly. Don't want this? Then you are still learning, because with these options you never stand still. You get an awful lot of life experience in return. You may get a whole different view of life, which can help you in your general development and you will learn to know yourself in a very different way!

Wednesday 27 March is the opportunity to network with employees of the CEW (Centre of Expertise Water technology). This is a great opportunity to arrange a placement spot or learn more about water technology.
Hallieu has planned in collaboration with the CEW this afternoon/evening, the program looks like this:
At 16:00 the CEW starts by giving a lecture (in the CEW Building, a 5-minute walk from the van Hall Larenstein). This lecture is given by a.o. Maarten Tallat. Here we are told, what the CEW is and does and the internship opportunities for students.
After that we will have a nice dinner with staff and interns of the CEW, followed by a quiz about water technology. After that we will all play pool.

You can register by sending an e-mail to the following e-mail address:
There has been a demand for more excursions with the members of Hallieu for many years. Previously, we have had company visits with other study associations. Now we have organized our own excursion. In collaboration with the Antea Group, a consulting firm, Hallieu organizes an excursion to a project location where work is carried out. A gas pipeline is built under a former tramway. A lot of different activities are carried out at such a project location.
Is this something for you and your classmates? We will start with a small explanation about the process of soil research and the laying of pipes in the soil. After that we will go to the project location (transport is arranged), where we can look around and get explanations. If there is enough enthusiasm from the ecology angle, the group can be split up and students can walk along with a ecologist explaining the ecological perspective of the laying of piping.
So put your hands out of the sleeves and join us on excursion! Up to 20 students can join, so sign up quickly.
The excursion takes place on Monday 25 February. Times will be announced later.
The winter gala will be displayed on February 7. It starts at 20:30 in the rhino. The tickets cost 10 euro for members and 12.50 for non members. The following dates are available at the booth in the canteen around lunch:
Wednesday 16 January 2019 the SLB-Careers Day is organised at the Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein (HVHL) in Leeuwarden. A unique opportunity for companies, organizations, jobseekers and students to network. Networking is important to create new opportunities in work and study.
As a company you can present yourself as a future employer to the students. The career market is being designed for this. In addition, various student workshops are offered. A great opportunity to expand the network and get acquainted with potential interns and/or employees.
Students are looking for the real stories from the Work field. They need a concrete picture of their later work environment. Tell the real story and tie the student to your business. We expect about 500 students on the careers day.
On the 4th of December we will be cozy with all of us in the (hopefully nice warm) local B210 watching a movie. This time is Before the Flood's turn, the documentary by Leonardo DiCaprio on climate change. Of course, you should have seen it as an environmentalist.
This time we also have something extra: we're going to eat pizza in the break! We will order this pizza through Domino's, so check out the website which pizza you want. Then we order your pizza: In the form below you can indicate which pizza you want (if you don't want pizza then you only need to fill in your name).
Walk is at 16:45, the movie starts at 17:00. Make sure you are there something earlier than 17:00 if you want pizza in connection with ordering.
